re:power is a nonprofit that exists to build a critical mass of social justice movements and their leaders who embody the ideology and practice of liberatory organizing, an organizing practice that is pro-Black and grounded in community, collective action, and abundance.

Ensuring these agreements are accurate, consistent, and accessible is vital for re:power to operate efficiently and deliver on its mission, and that’s why they brought in Juro.

2.

The challenge

A fragmented and inconsistent contract process

Before implementing Juro, re:power was faced with a fragmented contract process that spanned different teams, tools, and terms. This lack of cohesion created inefficiencies and inconsistencies, as Deana, Program Administrative Coordinator, explains:

“Previously, each department or programme area was responsible for managing their own contracts. Documents were stored in different places, different templates were being used, and there was no guarantee that individuals were working from the most current version.”

“Decentralized would be the best way to describe the process,” says Deana. “Whoever was leading the programme would go into Google Docs, copy and paste sections from a template, and then make their own adjustments.”

The signing process was also fragmented, with some stakeholders signing in eSigning tools, and others using a variety of plugins or pasting their signature into the contract directly.

These inconsistencies built up over time as contract volumes and scope of work grew, resulting in an increasing need for a single source of truth for contracts, as Jay, Finance Manager, explains:

"It was too easy to copy a contract from a year ago not realizing that there was a more recent version that should have been used,” says Jay. “The organization clearly needed centralization and standardization, and as Finance Manager, I needed better visibility into everything we had signed."

The requirements

What did re:power need?

To overcome the inefficiencies of their fragmented process, re:power needed a contract solution that could deliver:

  • Centralization of contracts: A single source of truth to ensure every team member was working with the most up-to-date version of each document.

  • Standardized templates: Consistent, approved language and formatting that would remove the risk of errors and outdated terms slipping through.

  • Visibility and reporting: The ability for leadership—particularly in finance—to track contract status, deadlines, and obligations across the portfolio with ease.

  • Support for multiple entities: Separate but connected workspaces to manage agreements across both their 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations.

By setting out these requirements, re:power aimed to simplify the contracting experience for program coordinators, reduce legal and operational risk, and give leadership full oversight of the organization’s contractual commitments.

The solution

An end-to-end, centralized tool for contracting

re:power chose Juro because it was a strong fit for all of these requirements. The platform offered the centralization, standardization, and visibility they were looking for, while also providing the flexibility to adapt templates, collaborate seamlessly, and manage contracts across both organizations in one place.

“Juro’s onboarding process was very strong. It was the perfect balance of using technology to streamline processes without reducing human interaction. Juro’s Legal Engineer was able to share a high level of technical knowledge but still explain it clearly, which isn’t always the case with other vendors.”

re:power uses Juro throughout the contract lifecycle:

  1. Program coordinators submit a Google Form to kickstart the contract process.
  2. Dedicated team members pick up the request and populate smart fields in the automated contract templates in Juro with the relevant details.
  3. Stakeholders are tagged in Juro when additional input or clarity is required, and discussions about the contract happen within the platform.
  4. The contract is routed for approval by the relevant stakeholders.
  5. The contract is forwarded to the signatory for final approval and sign-off.
  6. Contracts are organized into folders for easy access.
  7. Filters are used to generate reports on different types of agreements or program areas.

re:power is also using Juro’s conditional logic to automatically vary terms within the contract, depending on the commercials agreed.

"We sometimes adjust our payment terms for contracts, either requesting monthly payments or a portion of the payment upfront,” explains Deana.

“By embedding rules directly into our template, we've made it much easier for contract owners to quickly access the right terms for their deal. No more manually copying and pasting from old templates or figuring out the correct language, everything is automatically set, saving time and reducing errors!"

5.

The results

Unrivalled visibility into contracts

“For us, the biggest benefit of Juro has to be the template standardization,” Jay explains. “We’re getting it right the first time round with Juro, and that’s a huge time-saver for our teams as they no longer have to revisit tasks to solve inconsistencies. They have a clear and accurate template to work with from the beginning.”

re:power also benefits from the workspace set up available in Juro, and how these support the operations of its two separate organizations: a 501©(3) and a 501©(4).

“We’re able to clearly distinguish between the templates we have for both organizations by having them in separate workspaces, and we can trust that the language is consistently accurate in these,” Deana explains.

“It makes storage and tracking much easier, too. I can get a birds eye view of all contracts across both organizations. I can really quickly filter those by programme areas, contract deadlines, and so on.”

This improved visibility across the contract portfolio is a significant benefit for re:power, particularly from the perspective of the finance team that is tasked with post-signature contract management:

“For us, the return-on-investment we receive from Juro comes as a result of the accuracy and risk mitigation it gives us as an organization,” Jay explains. “Our documents are captured in one place, and we no longer have to dig to find them. Juro turns our contracts into a clean and intuitive database that’s easy to track and query.”
