MDLBEAST, a Saudi Arabian entertainment company, launched in 2019 with Soundstorm, one of the Middle East’s largest electronic music festivals. Beyond festivals, it supports music production, artist development, and cultural initiatives to grow Saudi Arabia’s creative economy.

Since its inception, MDLBEAST has expanded into multiple pillars, becoming a key player in building a global, sustainable music ecosystem. The company nurtures local talent, creates career opportunities, and connects artists with industry networks.

MDLBEAST's largest event: Soundstorm

Through MDLBEAST Records and MDLBEAST Publishing, it helps artists produce and distribute music worldwide. Flagship events like Soundstorm, XP Music Futures, and Balad Beast showcase diverse talent and fuel industry growth, while venues like Attaché and Beast House foster collaboration and innovation.

As the company expanded, rising contract volumes outgrew existing processes, and the legal team needed a more efficient way to manage agreements at scale.

The challenge: a slow and fragmented contract lifecycle

MDLBEAST’s lean legal team is responsible for all legal issues across the company, providing strategic advice to all three pillars of the business (events, venues, and music production).

Alongside this, they’re also tasked with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts for the entire organization - a task that was significantly more challenging  before implementing Juro.

Faisal Al-Alamy, General Counsel at MDLBEAST describes the old process as manual and decentralized, which was commensurate with the needs of the company at the time.

“The business relied on a combination of Word documents, PDFs, email chains, shared drives, and third-party eSigning tools,” Faisal explains. “This made it hard to control and oversee contracting.”

“But the biggest issue was filing and storing contracts. At the time, the legal team was manned by two people , and they were struggling to surface contracts due to the rising volume and a lack of a centralized filing system.”

“Drafting was also slow. Growing contract volumes meant that it was taking days to draft and approve a contract, or up to a week to create a new contract template,” says Faisal. “The process was full of opportunities for growth.”

The requirements: what did MDLBEAST need?

With 1,000+ contracts signed annually and a lean legal team, MDLBEAST needed a platform to speed up and streamline contracting. Specifically, the business needed:

  • Faster contract creation: Rapid growth made the legal team’s drafting and approval process unsustainable. They needed automation and guardrails to reduce manual reviews.
  • Greater contract visibility: The authorized signatories wanted a single source of truth for agreements signed and created across all departments, and a reliable way to query contract data.
  • Actionable performance insights: The business needed to audit contracts, measure efficiencies, and identify bottlenecks - a goal that was impossible with contracts scattered across versions, drives, and email chains.

The solution: a data-rich, single source of truth for contracts

MDLBEAST implemented Juro in 2023, rolling out intelligent contracting across all business units, including venues, events, and music production.

Each pillar follows a slightly different process, but contracting in Juro typically involves the following steps:

  • A member of the commercial team selects a pre-approved contract template and completes a simple Q&A form with examples to guide them. This generates the contract with the relevant terms applied automatically.
  • The contract moves through a three-tier approval process: the business unit owner, finance, and legal).
  • Once approved, the contract owner shares it with the counterparty for signing, including a brief templated email explaining the process.
  • The authorized signatory provides the final signature before the contract is stored and tracked in Juro’s data-rich repository.

“Juro has been a breath of fresh air for us as a department that’s facing increasing demands and trying to organize our growing database of contracts,” says Faisal. “We’ve been able to consolidate our process and get a birds eye view of contracts across the different pillars of business.”

“In particular, I really appreciate how much control we have over our contracts by setting up rules and conditions in Juro,” says Faisal. “We can create rules for specific templates and that makes it significantly easier for the individuals self-serving on contract creation because they’re only asked to populate the fields that are relevant to them and the type of agreement they’re setting up. It’s faster, and there’s less scope for error.”

“The conditional logic also gives us greater flexibility when it comes to the terms that appear in contracts by default. For example, if we’re agreeing on a one album deal with an artist, the terms will be different to if we were agreeing on a five album deal, and these additional terms are pulled in automatically in Juro to suit the specific scenario we’re working with. That speeds up the creation and review process significantly.”

MDLBEAST also uses Juro’s analytics and reporting functionality to track efficiencies and forecast busier periods of contracting.

“We really value the data Juro provides, and we find it extremely helpful for forecasting contract workload throughout the year, particularly in the run up to our biggest events. It’s a great high-level planning tool in that regard.”

“The visibility the platform provides is extremely important. With Juro, we always have a clear pipeline of contracts and we always know what stage a contract is at, where we can find the paper trail, and what the blockers are. That’s crucial to our growth as a business.”

The results: contracts executed up to 253 per cent faster

“I would absolutely recommend Juro to anyone in an in-house legal role coming up against large contract volumes and increasing demands,” says Faisal.

“The platform has dramatically reduced our contract execution time across departments. People come to me and say that before these processes, it would take months to get a service agreement signed. Now it takes days.”

Department Avg. execution time before implementing Juro Avg. execution time after implementing Juro Efficiency increase (%)
Venues 14 days, 22 hours 4 days, 5 hours 253% faster
Events 14 days, 15 hours 4 days, 15 hours 217% faster
Sponsorships 23 days, 11 hours 9 days, 9 hours 140% faster
Food & beverage 18 days, 11 hours 8 days, 21 hours 108% faster

“It’s an easy platform to defend spend on because we just show the C-suite the efficiencies driven by Juro,” he explains. “Our contracts get signed faster with fewer bottlenecks, and we have full visibility into our pending contracts. Juro has been a solid pillar in my department.”

“I’d recommend it to anyone that wants to improve visibility into contracts, prove to leadership that legal is performing, and maintain contract governance and compliance at scale.”
