Eucalyptus is an Australian telehealth and digital health company that facilitates consultations between patients and doctors. The business was founded in Sydney, Australia, in 2019, raised $40m in their Series C round in January 2022, and another $30m in March 2023. Eucalyptus operates four telehealth brands to enable patients to be connected to doctors and pharmacists with ongoing patient care.

The challenge

Contracts blocking growth

Eucalyptus’ legal team consisted of six lawyers, serving over 200 employees across multiple entities. Enabling the business, and the four other healthcare brands Eucalyptus owned, was key, but the contract process often slowed legal down, as Ryan Zahrai, Head of Legal, explained:

“We had another contracts platform in place for talent agreements, independent contractor agreements, supplier agreements and employment agreements, but the process was still relatively manual. I was growing frustrated with the platform because its editing capabilities were not user-friendly.”

This process became a blocker as Eucalyptus continued to add headcount, and Ryan realized something needed to change.

“In my first three months in the Head of Legal role, there was an urgent contract I needed to execute. All I had to do was to change some minor formatting in the document, and it took me two hours.

It was incredibly frustrating - that process would’ve taken two minutes through any other system. It was a stressful period, dealing with a temperamental contract management tool. That was the final straw for me.”

The requirements

What did Eucalyptus need?

Businesses often struggle with legacy CLMs, as they are uncollaborative and inflexible. Ryan wanted a collaborative contract management platform that could:

  • Automate routine admin so Eucalyptus could agree contracts at scale
  • Offer instant data visibility on contracts between systems
  • Streamline collaboration between legal and business teams

“Maintaining fidelity is important as we upload contracts into a new platform. That was a key pain point with other systems we had trialled, so much so that we were close to moving back to Word.”

Ryan had experience using Juro at a previous company, which made the switch to Juro a no-brainer.

The solution

A platform that would scale with the business

Eucalyptus implemented Juro in December 2021 to streamline collaboration for legal and business teams, and reduce mounting pressure on legal. Ryan and his team were getting value “within a few weeks of committing to Juro as a new platform.”

Market-leading onboarding: “the overall onboarding process was stress-free, intuitive, and extremely responsive. We had a functional suite of up to 50 templates ready within weeks.”

Ease of use: “we had two legal counsel join the team, and Juro was a brand new product for them. One of those lawyers quickly became a champion for Juro, driving adoption through the business.”

Strong counterparty adoption: “we’ve sent hundreds of contracts to investors and shareholders, almost all through Juro. Counterparties really appreciate the fact that you can view and sign a contract easily and securely from your phone.”

Seamless self-serve: “we invested the initial time into creating a comprehensive contract template suite for every business unit. Now colleagues go through the Q&A workflow in Juro, and they can just ‘rinse and repeat’ with particular contracts.”

The results

12 hours a week saved from contract work

Ryan and the legal team at Eucalyptus wanted to implement a collaborative contract management platform that could streamline collaboration and would scale with the business. Since implementing Juro in 2021, the legal team has automated tasks on routine contracts to free up time for high-value work.

“We’re not spending nearly as much time as a legal team on contracts - legal is saving at least 12 hours a week on contract review by using Juro.”

“Juro has also saved us significant resource - we don’t need to have a person guiding colleagues through contracts anymore. I would definitely recommend Juro for teams that have high-volume, low-complexity contract needs.”
